  • A major refurbishment of the BMX track at Cheney Row Open Space has just been completed.

The refurbishment work was carried out by a professional BMX track builder (Bike Track) and has been approved by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

A grant of £21k from the London Mayors Facilities Fund for the track improvement work was secured with the assistance of Access Sport. The Council contributed £11k towards the project and Access Sport donated £2.5k.
The Football Foundation administered the grant aid funding on behalf of the London Mayor.
There is no charge to use the BMX track which will be enjoyed by the local community and undoubtedly by BMX enthusiasts from much further afield.

East London Bicycle Organisation Cycling Club (ELBO CC) is a local club that was instrumental in working with the Council and Access Sport to bring about the improvements to the BMX track. ELBO CC has four fully qualified British Cycling BMX coaches and a pool of 6 local volunteers.

The club delivers BMX sessions at Highams Park Coaching Centre and to local schools on Cheney Row Open Space. With the improvements to Cheney Row BMX track complete ELBO CC will be working with Walthamstow Academy to deliver further BMX coaching sessions.
